Past the designated estates the map keeps going: Crowthorne and Swinley Forest at the southern edge, Warfield West and Jennett's Park at the other, then over the borough line to Twyford, Ruscombe and Hurst. An address on this page is as often a village house on a wide plot as an estate terrace.
Bracknell was designated a new town after the war and built largely in one push, which shows in a stock split fairly evenly between terraces, detached houses and semis across RG12 and RG42. Housing of that age usually sits on a solid ground floor, so the membrane beneath matters more than levelling boards.
On a solid ground floor, click-lock LVT and laminate both float without fixings, which suits much of the RG12 stock from Bullbrook to Great Hollands. Engineered oak will float there too, provided the membrane below is sound – worth checking before anything goes down, not after.
Engineered oak suits the detached and semi-detached side of Bracknell, laid floating over a solid ground floor once the membrane underneath has been checked.
Shop rangeClick-lock LVT goes straight down over concrete with no fixings, sits low at doorways, and copes with spills in a Harmans Water kitchen.
Shop rangeAround a sixth of Bracknell homes are socially rented, and laminate answers that brief: low cost, quick to lay over concrete, replaced rather than refinished.
Shop rangeBracknell is RG12 and RG42 — Easthampstead and Wildridings, Great Hollands, Hanworth, Harmans Water and Crown Wood, Bullbrook, and north to Binfield and Warfield West. It is a unitary authority in its own right, separate from Berkshire's other five. Bracknell was designated a new town in 1949, and the housing reflects it: ownership was 66.8% at the 2021 census with social renting also at 15.7%, an unusually even three-way split. For flooring that matters more than it sounds. Post-war and later housing generally means a solid ground floor rather than suspended timber, so the question is not levelling the boards but checking the damp-proof membrane before anything goes down.
At the 2021 census, 20.9% of households in Bracknell Forest lived in a flat, maisonette or apartment and 77.5% in a house or bungalow — 28.8% of all households in a terraced house.
