Windsor Narrow is 18mm of solid European oak with nothing bonded underneath it. The 90mm width is deliberately narrow: it is the proportion Victorian and Edwardian rooms were originally boarded in, which is why it settles into a period house instead of fighting it.
Solid oak moves with humidity in a way engineered board does not, so it wants a stable room and a timber subfloor. Secret-nail or glue it down, acclimatise the packs properly and leave a generous expansion gap at every wall.
Fitter’s note: Keep indoor humidity roughly between 45% and 65% all year. A solid board that dries out will shrink and open gaps at the joints — and no fitting method prevents that.
