Onyx Effect tiles in porcelain: the two Taj Mahal tiles, Cappuccino and Pearl, polished. 10 mm thick at 600 mm by 1200 mm, following a banded stone; made in Spain, frost resistant, specified for floor and wall.

Banded, not veined
Onyx reads in bands of colour where marble reads in veins, and a polished surface is what shows the banding; it is the tile for a room that is meant to be looked at.
Two tones
Taj Mahal Pearl is the pale one; Taj Mahal Cappuccino is the warmer one, as the names say. Both are listed among the marble effects as well.
Porcelain
Onyx the stone is soft and porous; onyx the porcelain is neither. A water absorption ratio listed under 0.50, listed as compatible with underfloor heating, and 10 mm thick.
Where does an onyx-effect tile belong?
An onyx-effect tile belongs on bathroom walls, in a shower enclosure, on a feature wall or on a hallway floor that stays dry. It is a decorative surface, and a whole room of it can be a lot; many rooms use it on one wall against a matt floor.
Is polished onyx-effect porcelain slippery?
When wet, a polished porcelain is, and slip resistance is a measured value: the HSE pendulum scale is quoted below and the figure for each tile is on its data sheet. Both Taj Mahal tiles are polished, so on a floor that gets wet they are a wall tile first and a floor tile only where the figure supports it.
How do polished porcelain tiles hold up on a floor?
The surface is hard and does not etch or stain the way the stone would. What shows on any polished floor is fine scratching from grit, so a doormat at the door matters, and the grout lines are what need the cleaning.
What does tile fitting cost?
Skilled tiling typically runs £30 to £50 per m² in labour plus preparation. It is not a DIY job; a good tiler is worth every pound on a floor this permanent.

Choosing onyx-effect porcelain

Onyx is a stone that reads in bands rather than veins, and the two Taj Mahal tiles follow it in polished porcelain. Both are 600 mm by 1200 mm and 10 mm thick, made in Spain, frost resistant, listed as compatible with underfloor heating, with a water absorption ratio listed under 0.50, specified for floor and wall, two to a box covering 1.44 square metres. Pearl is the pale version; Cappuccino the warm one. Both also sit in the marble-effect subcategory.

The reason to choose the porcelain over the stone is the same as for marble, only more so: real onyx is soft and porous, and it is a wall material in most buildings for that reason. The porcelain keeps the look and drops the fragility. It does not etch under household acids, takes on almost no water, and it is consistent from tile to tile.

It is a decorative tile, and that decides where it goes.
