Beyond the central terraces – Livesey with Pleasington, Little Harwood and Whitebirk, on towards Wilpshire and Salesbury – the semis and detached houses start, and between them they edge past the terraced share of Blackburn with Darwen. Rooms run wider out there, and the order tends to cover the whole downstairs rather than a single front room.
Terraced housing accounts for more of the stock than any other type across BB1 and BB2, from Blackburn Central through Bastwell and Daisyfield to Ewood. Ownership fell over the last decade while private renting rose, and with social housing on top nearly two in five homes are rented.
Terraces set the pattern in Blackburn, and with a large rented share the deciding question is cost per year rather than the option to refinish. LVT answers it, and a hard-wearing laminate answers it for less; solid oak is the harder case to make here.
Engineered oak is worth the outlay where a Blackburn household owns and has no plans to move; against a rented terrace the case is thinner.
Shop rangeWith renting so common in BB1 and BB2, LVT does the practical work: hard-wearing, quick to clean, and one damaged plank can be swapped without lifting the room.
Shop rangeA higher AC-rated laminate covers the ground floor of an Ewood or Little Harwood terrace at a price that suits a rented property, and it wears well.
Shop rangeWe deliver to BB1 and BB2 — Blackburn Central, Audley and Queen's Park, Bastwell and Daisyfield, Billinge and Beardwood, and south towards Lower Darwen. Blackburn with Darwen is a unitary authority. The tenure shift here is sharper than the national pattern: ownership fell 3.7 points to 60.5% between 2011 and 2021 while private renting rose 4.5 points to 20.2%, and social renting is 18.8%. Nearly two in five homes are rented. That makes durability per pound the deciding number for a large share of orders, and it is why LVT and higher AC-rated laminate lead on this page rather than solid oak. Where a floor is going into an owner-occupied terrace, the calculation is different and worth a conversation.
At the 2021 census, 11.8% of households in Blackburn with Darwen lived in a flat, maisonette or apartment and 88.1% in a house or bungalow — 43.4% of all households in a terraced house.
