Browse CollectionsSolid wood flooring is exactly that, each board milled from a single piece of timber, usually oak. It is the traditional choice for character and longevity, and can be sanded and refinished many times over its very long life.
Private renting has climbed here faster than in most of the towns we cover, so a floor often has to suit whoever comes next. LVT click-lock and laminate both float over a solid base without adhesive and lift again; engineered oak rewards an owner staying put.
It brings unmatched warmth and authenticity to period and characterful homes, and ages beautifully year after year. Ground temperature under a Mansfield Woodhouse or Sutton-in-Ashfield estate slab moves with the season rather than the night, so the whole ground floor holds much the same temperature corner to corner. Whatever goes over it expands and contracts slowly, over months, evenly across the room.
Former coalfield housing shapes Mansfield: semis dominate the mix by a wide margin across Central, Berry Hill, Carr Bank and Grange Farm, and the ground floor is more often solid than joisted. The membrane under a solid floor is worth checking before a floating floor goes over it. For exactly these properties, solid wood flooring comes into its own in living rooms and bedrooms in period homes, away from high-moisture areas.
A quick tour through a typical Mansfield home:
Pit housing and the estates that followed: Mansfield’s housing came out of the coalfield — homes built for the pits, then the estates after them — and what lies under nearly all of it is a solid base rather than joists. There is nothing to pack and no void to ventilate; read the membrane, and if it holds, a laminate floats over the top on an underlay.
Floors for a household not yet there: Private renting has climbed here faster than in most towns we cover while ownership has slipped, so a good many of these floors are chosen for people who have not moved in yet. That puts the money into the surface, where LVT holds up across several tenancies.
A semi from the hall to the back room: The semi is far and away the commonest home in Mansfield, and in one of them the ground floor runs unbroken from the hall through to the back room. Carrying a single engineered oak floor that whole length reads better than several materials meeting at doorways.
Kitchen units over a floating floor: Because the ground floor here floats rather than being fixed down, a kitchen has to keep its expansion gap even where the units hide it. Boxing a floating laminate in tight under a fitted run is what makes it lift later; leave the gap and cover it.
We deliver across Mansfield and Nottinghamshire (NG postcodes) from our UK warehouse. Most in-stock orders arrive within a timeframe that depends on the delivery postcode.
Orders for solid wood flooring head out to Sutton-in-Ashfield, Forest Town and Mansfield Woodhouse and the NG postcode area, and everywhere in between. The safest first step is a sample order to your Mansfield home: a few boards on your own floor, in your own light, tell you more than any photo.
Bestsellers our customers order again and again. Samples available for every floor.
