Coalfield names how Mansfield was built; it does not describe everything standing here now. Across NG18 and NG19 there are more detached houses than terraces and flats put together, and a page written only for pit rows would be talking past the households at Lindhurst, Eakring and Kingsway Forest Town.
Former coalfield housing shapes Mansfield: semis dominate the mix by a wide margin across Central, Berry Hill, Carr Bank and Grange Farm, and the ground floor is more often solid than joisted. The membrane under a solid floor is worth checking before a floating floor goes over it.
Private renting has climbed here faster than in most of the towns we cover, so a floor often has to suit whoever comes next. LVT click-lock and laminate both float over a solid base without adhesive and lift again; engineered oak rewards an owner staying put.
On a solid Mansfield floor, engineered oak goes down floating on underlay rather than nailed, which makes sense for an owner intending to stay rather than a short let.
Shop rangeOver the solid floors of the old coalfield estates, LVT click-lock floats cleanly and wipes down, and a thicker wear layer earns its keep where households change often.
Shop rangeAcross NG18 and NG19, laminate covers a lot of floor for the money, though over a solid base the underlay beneath it matters as much as the board.
Shop rangeMansfield is NG18 and NG19 — Central, Bancroft, Berry Hill, Brick Kiln, Carr Bank, Grange Farm, with Edwinstowe and Clipstone to the east. It is a district of Nottinghamshire. Private renting rose 5.3 points between the two censuses to 18.9%, one of the steepest increases we see, while ownership fell to 64.0% and social renting sits at 16.4%. Mansfield's housing is largely former coalfield stock — pit housing and post-war estates — which usually means a solid ground floor rather than joists. Combine the two facts and the specification writes itself: a floating floor over a checked damp-proof membrane, with the wear layer chosen for a property that may change hands.
At the 2021 census, 9.4% of households in Mansfield lived in a flat, maisonette or apartment and 90.4% in a house or bungalow — 16.7% of all households in a terraced house.
