Browse CollectionsPet-friendly flooring stands up to claws, accidents and muddy paws without showing every mark. Scratch-resistant LVT, rigid SPC and tough laminate give you a hard-wearing, waterproof surface that still looks smart in a busy household.
Engineered oak goes down over either Bridgend base, but the preparation is not the same job. Over screed the task is flatness and the right underlay; over a timber void it is levelling the boards first. Quote for the wrong one and the fitting overruns.
A durable wear layer shrugs off scratches, a waterproof core handles the odd accident, and a quick wipe keeps everything clean, ideal for homes with dogs and cats. North of the town, the valley communities of Aberkenfig, Blackmill, Garw Valley and Gilfach-goch hold the oldest and most exposed housing, where warmth underfoot counts as much as looks. Build to insulate, with a proper underlay beneath an engineered board rather than the thinnest possible height.
Two kinds of home sit in Bridgend and they do not want the same preparation. Brackla is a late-twentieth-century estate laid on slab, often screeded, while the older terraced streets nearer the town centre are suspended timber over a void. Semis are commoner here than detached or terraced homes across CF31, CF32 and CF35. Within that mix, pet-friendly flooring earns its place above all in kitchens, hallways, living rooms and utility rooms.
A quick tour through a typical Bridgend home:
Brackla, where the base is screed: Brackla went up as one large estate on solid ground, much of it screeded over the slab. A base like that is not levelled so much as tested: take a moisture reading, and once it passes, SPC or engineered wood goes down without disturbing what is beneath.
Terraces nearer Bridgend Central: Closer to the centre the ground floor changes to timber over an open void, which is a different job at a different price, not the same quote with another address on it. Bring the boards true, keep the void ventilated, and engineered wood settles over them.
Front rooms in a semi: Semi-detached houses outnumber every other kind in Bridgend, and in a pair raised together the joists of both halves run one way. Boards set across those joists instead of along them stay flat, which counts for more with engineered oak than with anything clicked over screed.
A landlord with houses on both sides of town: Renting privately has grown here since the last census, and a Bridgend landlord holding one Brackla house and one older terrace has two jobs, not one order placed twice. LVT serves both, but only one of the two needs its boards made good beforehand.
