Hundreds of Brackla houses were raised in a single period and built to the same detail, which is not how most towns work. It makes the neighbours' floor real evidence about your own: what came up in one hallway is very likely what will come up in the next.
Two kinds of home sit in Bridgend and they do not want the same preparation. Brackla is a late-twentieth-century estate laid on slab, often screeded, while the older terraced streets nearer the town centre are suspended timber over a void. Semis are commoner here than detached or terraced homes across CF31, CF32 and CF35.
Engineered oak goes down over either Bridgend base, but the preparation is not the same job. Over screed the task is flatness and the right underlay; over a timber void it is levelling the boards first. Quote for the wrong one and the fitting overruns.
Semis outnumber both detached and terraced homes in Bridgend, and engineered oak goes into them on either base – screed at Brackla, or timber once the boards are flat.
Shop rangeThe screeded slabs at Brackla take click-lock LVT straightforwardly: little build-up under doors, a surface that handles spills, and a quick fit where renting has grown.
Shop rangeBudget matters, and laminate is the cheaper board – over the suspended timber of the older terraces, though, it needs a levelled base or the joints work loose.
Shop rangeBridgend covers CF31, CF32 and CF35 — Bridgend Central, the four Brackla wards, Bryntirion, Laleston and Merthyr Mawr, Aberkenfig, Blackmill, and Brynna and Llanharan. It is a Welsh unitary authority. Ownership stood at 70.5% at the 2021 census and private renting at 15.3%, up three points on 2011. Brackla is a large late-twentieth-century estate and behaves quite differently from the older terraces nearer the town centre: the first is a solid slab, often with a screed, the second is suspended timber over a void. Both take engineered wood, but the preparation is not the same job, and quoting one when you have the other is how a fitting overruns.
At the 2021 census, 10.0% of households in Bridgend lived in a flat, maisonette or apartment and 89.7% in a house or bungalow — 24.9% of all households in a terraced house.
