Rooms inside listed buildings

The medieval grid and the Cathedral Close give Salisbury an exceptional concentration of listed buildings, and there lifting an original floor needs consent rather than a decision. Where consent is withheld, a floating engineered wood floor over the existing boards leaves the original untouched.

Ground floors in Bemerton Heath and Laverstock

Once the consent question is settled the split is plain: older stock on suspended timber, the newer estates on a slab, and each wants its own preparation. Boards need levelling and a breathable build-up; a slab needs a moisture reading before SPC goes down.

Kitchens

Salisbury is overwhelmingly houses rather than flats, so a kitchen here almost always has a door to the garden behind it. What that door brings in is work for porcelain tiles, and they sit most easily on the slab floors out towards Wilton.

Hallways

A hallway in a listed Salisbury house may have a floor that is part of what is listed, and covering it beats lifting it. Elsewhere in Harnham or Fisherton a tough laminate or plank LVT takes the grit that comes off the pavement.
