Browse CollectionsThe hallway takes more traffic than any other room, so durability and first impressions both matter. Hard-wearing LVT, quality laminate and engineered wood stand up to muddy boots and daily wear while still looking sharp.
Over levelled boards engineered oak behaves well, and it can be taken up again when something below needs reaching. Where a Kettering house is let out, and private renting has climbed since the last census, a click-fit board copes better with tenants coming and going.
A tough wear layer resists scratches and scuffs, and a wood or stone effect makes an instant statement as you walk through the door. Boards over a ventilated void live with the year: an NN16 floor takes up moisture through a wet autumn and gives it back once the heating comes on. Leave the packs standing where the floor is to go, and keep a real gap at the skirting.
The boot and shoe trade built Kettering in the nineteenth century, and those workers’ terraces sit on suspended timber rather than concrete. Semis are the commonest type across NN14, NN15 and NN16, with detached houses close behind. Expect to level old boards before anything goes down over them.
From the orders we deliver across Kettering, this is where each floor tends to go:
Ground floors in the old trade terraces: Kettering terraces went up with the boot and shoe trade, long before the estates on the edge of town, and they stand on timber rather than concrete. The work here is levelling boards, not testing a slab, and engineered oak over a true base will not telegraph a joist.
Rented homes in Kettering Central and Avondale Grange: Private renting has been climbing steadily across North Northamptonshire, and much of what is let in Kettering is that same old terraced stock. A floating laminate forgives an imperfect floor beneath it and can be renewed between tenants without a fortune going into it.
Kitchens: A kitchen in one of the trade terraces shares its joists with the hall, so a heavy tiled floor there means strengthening the structure first. LVT sidesteps that question: thin, stable, and untroubled by water standing at the foot of the sink unit.
Bedrooms over the original boards: Upstairs in the older Kettering houses the floorboards are the ones first laid, and they flex where the nails have worked loose. Screw them down before anything else happens; after that, laminate on a heavy underlay is quiet enough to sleep over.
We deliver across Kettering and Northamptonshire (NN postcodes) from our UK warehouse. Most in-stock orders arrive within a timeframe that depends on the delivery postcode.
Orders for hallway flooring head out to Barton Seagrave, Burton Latimer and Rothwell and the NN postcode area, and everywhere in between. The safest first step is a sample order to your Kettering home: a few boards on your own floor, in your own light, tell you more than any photo.
