Getting on for nine of every ten Wrexham homes are houses, and the converted flat is close to absent, so an order here is normally the whole place at once rather than a single room in a shared building. From LL11 through to LL13 that is one decision covering the ground floor and the stairs.
Wrexham grew on the collieries and the breweries, and much of the terraced stock dates from those years: suspended timber at ground level over a void, wanting levelling before anything is laid. Semis and detached houses make up the bulk of the stock, while the later housing towards Brymbo is more often solid.
Over a levelled timber floor, engineered oak moves less across a ventilated void than solid board would, and it suits the roomier semis around Acton and Maesydre. In a rented terrace – and over a third of homes here are rented – Laminate Flooring is the more practical call.
Engineered oak copes with the ventilated void under a Wrexham terrace better than solid timber would, provided the joists and boards are levelled first.
Shop rangeWhere the ground floor is solid, as in much of the later housing around Brymbo and Coedpoeth, click-lock LVT lies flat and wipes clean in a hallway.
Shop rangeLaminate keeps the outlay down when a tenancy ends and a room needs a fresh floor, and it goes over a prepared timber base without much fuss.
Shop rangeWrexham covers LL11, LL12, LL13 and LL14 — Acton and Maesydre, Borras Park, Brynyffynnon, Bryn Cefn, Brymbo, and out to Acrefair and Caergwrle. It became a Welsh unitary authority in 1996 and a city in 2022. Social renting is high at 21.0% and private renting rose 3.9 points to 15.8% between the censuses, against ownership of 62.5% — over a third of homes rented. Wrexham grew on coal and brewing and much of the terraced stock dates from that period: suspended timber at ground level, over a void, and usually needing levelling before anything is laid. The former colliery villages around Brymbo are later and more often solid.
At the 2021 census, 11.4% of households in Wrexham lived in a flat, maisonette or apartment and 88.4% in a house or bungalow — 19.1% of all households in a terraced house.
