Smoking carries the grey into the wood rather than laying it on top, so the colour reads even and deliberate across the floor.

Deep brushing does on a grey floor what it does on a dark one: it breaks up the reflections that make dust and fine scratches show, so the floor reads as clean between vacuums. The oiled finish is repaired locally with the manufacturer's maintenance oil. Tongue and groove, micro-bevelled, listed as compatible with underfloor heating; a box of six boards covers 2.904 square metres, and the manufacturer's warranty is 15 years.

Grey is the colour most affected by the light in the room: cool under northern daylight, closer to greige under warm bulbs, so see the sample at both times of day.
