The stain is in the oak wear layer; the figure of the wood is oak's, broader and more open than real walnut.

A smooth dark lacquered surface is the most formal look in the range and the one that shows dust and fine scratches most readily, so it belongs in a dining room or a living room with felt pads under the furniture, not at the front door. The lacquer wipes clean and is refinished as a whole floor when it has worn. Tongue and groove, micro-bevelled, listed as compatible with underfloor heating; a box covers 1.44 square metres, and the manufacturer's warranty is 15 years.

For the real timber, the Cobham American Black Walnut is the same width with walnut's finer grain and a colour that lightens rather than darkens with daylight. For a dark oak that hides marks, the brushed Cobham Twilight Timber Oak in the same format.
