Laid glued to a flat, dry subfloor and set out from the centre of the room, the blocks arrive finished; the matt lacquer wipes clean, and the solid oak beneath can be sanded and refinished repeatedly. Acclimatisation and the subfloor moisture reading come first, as with every solid oak floor. Tongue and groove, micro-bevelled, not listed as compatible with underfloor heating; a box covers 1.08 square metres, and the manufacturer's warranty is 20 years.

The Marlow Natural Oak blocks are one step warmer in the same finish; the Marlow Unfinished blocks share the light oak colour and are sealed on site. For a pale herringbone on a heated floor, the engineered Oxford Light Oak or Light Brushed blocks.
