Accessibility Statement

How accessible homesandfloors.co.uk is today, what we have tested and fixed, what still falls short, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

  • Prepared
  • Standard: WCAG 2.2 level AA

Our aim

Everyone should be able to find, compare and order a floor on this website, including people who use a keyboard instead of a mouse, a screen reader, screen magnification or voice control.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This statement covers homesandfloors.co.uk.

How accessible this website is

Partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AAWe have fixed the problems our automated checks found. We have not yet had a full manual audit, so some parts may not fully meet the standard.

These limits are known today:

  • Some product lists skip a heading level, for example from a section heading straight to the product names. Navigating by headings with a screen reader still works, but the outline is less tidy.
  • The chat is provided by Botpress. Its button has a name and the chat only loads when you ask for it, but we cannot fully control the chat window itself. You can always reach us by phone, email or the contact form instead.
  • Documents from manufacturers, such as data sheets, are published as we receive them and have not been checked for accessibility. Ask us and we will send the information in another format.
  • The delivery map shows towns as points. Every town on it can also be found with the search box beside the map, which is easier with a keyboard or screen reader.

What we changed

On we fixed what our checks found:

  • Where our checks found text contrast too low, it now reaches at least 4.5:1: on product cards, prices, menus, guides and buttons, including “Add to basket” and “Place order”.
  • Every page type we build has a “Skip to main content” link and a main landmark.
  • The mobile menu and the basket panel no longer take keyboard focus while they are closed.
  • Every town link on the homepage delivery map has a name, and the map is announced as a group of links rather than an image.
  • The cookie window takes keyboard focus when it opens, keeps it until you choose, returns it afterwards, and its switches are labelled.
  • Forms have visible labels, fill in name, email and phone automatically where your browser offers it, mark required fields, and explain clearly when a message could not be sent.
  • The chat button has a name, and the chat only loads when you open it.

How we tested

We checked nine page types with the automated tool axe-core 4.10.2 against WCAG 2.2 levels A and AA and its best-practice rules: the homepage, a product category, a product page, a guide, a flooring page for a town, the delivery areas map, samples, the FAQ and our About page.

Automated tools find only part of the problems that affect people. That is why we list the limits we know about and ask you to tell us about anything else.
